are we being fair to the upcoming generations?

My granddaughter shared a really interesting video with me the other day. It showed adults who never really grew up, acting like kids—some even taking classes on “adulting” just to figure out their roles in society, let alone how to take care of themselves.

It made me think about human dignity and where we’re heading with that. Are we, as parents and teachers, giving our children the best experiences to help them become the future of our society? Or are we just handing them all the comforts and entertainment, claiming that’s what they need, while shielding them from real hardships and struggles?

Are they ever truly challenged in their lives? Without experiencing difficulty and adversity, they miss out on growing into resilient, capable individuals. They don’t get the chance to build strength and character. And honestly, without those challenges, they might never truly thrive.

Look at nature…

Change is a part of learning to grow, prosper, and mature into something stronger and more resilient. Many believe in something called “Natural Selection”. It is the way anything in nature find ways to adapt to their ever changing environment or risk becoming extinct.

Plants have acclimated to different environments creating new subspecies which survive in very different climates from which they originated. The forms that survived the adaptation are better prepared for the environment than those which didn’t undergo the struggles it took to become something new.

Change to become better adapted to harsher environments is a natural process.

So, too, should it be for humans…

When it comes to us humans, growth doesn’t usually come easily—most of the time, it happens when we run into challenges. If someone isn’t willing to let go of their self-centered ways, they might find themselves stuck in that immature phase for quite a while. And as we get older, making those changes can become even tougher, especially if years have passed without practicing the discipline they never learned in the first place.

Today, we’ve started raising children who are hesitant to take risks. If we don’t teach them to overcome this hesitation, they might miss out on truly thriving in life.

Maybe it’s time we reconsider how we approach raising our future generations. Offering them endless bubbles of “security” and nonstop stimulation might be creating people who struggle to handle a world that really requires resilience and adaptability when facing challenges.
