Life is a struggle. It is meant to be. Without struggle, a person never is able to grow.
But we don’t like it. It is part of our human nature to desire to be comfortable and not to face challenges. And so we remain stuck in the mire of malaise and stagnation.
In learning to leap into the unknown, I have come to appreciate increasingly the necessity for taking risks, and how it affects my own perspective of myself.
Personal risks…
When it came to my faith, I had to leave a lifelong practice when I realized it wasn’t true. It was a death of sorts to something that had been my whole world.
…at the end of my life, I would have been left only with regret that I didn’t have the courage to have taken those chances.
When it came to my health, I had to take a risk to make an appointment to visit someone far more educated and experienced than I to get healed. I had to overcome the fear of losing money in exchange for something priceless.
And in filling my life-long dream for business, I had to take the jump into a world of production and exposure that was far less comfortable than that to which I was accustomed. But I never would have crossed that channel of despair and anxiety had I not finally made the move into the complex world of being an entrepreneur.
Nothing would have come to me to fix my own problems. Nothing in this world would resolve what I alone could resolve by taking the opportunities that were present.
To miss them would have left me in a state of paralysis. And at the end of my life, I would have been left only with regret that I didn’t have the courage to have taken those chances.
Risk…
In every area of life, there is a risk that must be taken. A challenge to the status quo that shakes us out of our slumber. The one thing that forces us to rethink what we really should do in order to make our dream a reality.
If ever you have a desire to be in a better position than you are right now, try taking just a small step in the direction of your goal. It doesn’t have to be big.
…nothing in life will just come to you. You must go out to meet it.
When you have done that, take another one. Then another.
The uncomfortableness of moving out toward what you long to be soon becomes less and less. And when you reach your goal, no matter how insignificant it may seem, there will be the joy of accomplishment – a pride of finally seeing your dream come true.
But nothing in life will just come to you. You must go out to meet it.
I challenge you to take the risk. Just like I have, even in starting this simple website.
You never fulfill any of your dreams if you fill the empty hours with excuses. And you will never know what you will learn by taking a risk toward your goals unless you try.
