What makes a good leader? And what can make that good person into a great leader?

We know who they are. Many of them are frequently quoted and used a wonderful inspirations for our own lives. And often, these are the people to whom many flock and follow.

They key can be summed up in one word: Humility.

“The mark of a true leader is their ability to elevate those around them without seeking recognition for themselves.”, author unknown. Those are the leaders who roll up their sleeves and work side-by-side with their employees. In experiencing the day-to-day drudgery of every employee, they gain an appreciation for their toils. In doing so, they become more willing to listen to these workers, not shirking their valuable input.

A great leader will not ignore valuable input from those who work for him: especially his most valued, hard working, skilled employees.

A humble person will surround himself with good counsel. He will seek to learn what he can do to better himself. His interest would be in giving the right and most fitting opportunities to those over whom he leads.

A great leader will not ignore valuable input from those who work for him: especially his most valued, hard working, skilled employees. They will enable him to have input to change course as needed to make both the work environment and production of his product more streamlined and efficient.

Great leaders provide great examples to follow.

These are the ideals that ever manager, CEO, business owner, leader should aspire to. For in doing so, they set the example, and the tone, of their business model. It is more than just words: their very lives provide the living inspiration for those whom they lead.

It is that quality makes such great men as Warren Buffet, Mahatma Gandhi, and Mother Theresa examples of people to whom others flock and desire to emulate.

In the words of another great aspirational leader,

“A true leader is one who serves and uplifts those around them.”

Martin King, JR

May we become the leaders others will want to follow.
