improving yourself improves those around you…

In our society, there’s often a tendency to expect everyone to be the same and to accept those who are satisfied with mediocrity. This mindset has led to a drop in motivation to better ourselves. I wonder, when did it become unacceptable to pursue personal growth and self-improvement?

When people strive for excellence, they usually put a lot of effort into reaching their goals and often succeed in ways others might not. Doing your best shouldn’t be something to apologize for. But seems we often see talented people being criticized or facing setbacks just for trying, even when their achievements are real and well-earned.

I’ve noticed that more and more companies seem to be choosing candidates who might not be the most fitting for a position, often leaning toward individuals who are less challenging, less experienced, or more likely to follow directions rather than those with the most qualifications. It also feels like the media tends to highlight stories less about notable achievements, overcoming obstacles, or showing discipline as inspiring examples for others unless they evoke strong emotions. Instead, the more someone challenges what was once seen as an accepted norm, the more they’re often highlighted as our role models. Their perspectives tend to be promoted as more virtuous than those who recognize the value of self-improvement. Embracing a spirit of growth and understanding can serve as a unifying, uplifting force rather than promoting viewpoints that divide our society.

Interestingly, social media often shows us a different side—celebrating people’s achievements and resilience. Those who’ve overcome challenges, proven that age isn’t an obstacle, and displayed amazing self-discipline and creativity are truly individuals worth imitating.

We are increasingly exposed to individuals who are only average at best, and in some cases, engage in unlawful behavior. These individuals are sometimes seen as new role models instead.

What do you think would happen to society if all those positive role models suddenly vanished?

Would the community end up better? Could it be that the quality might start to decline just to make room for a few people who are being promoted as the voices for less desirable change? Or has that shift already begun?

Looking at the bigger picture, we’ve seen a shift towards more individualism rather than a focus on community. When people don’t really recognize how their actions affect those around them and just focus on themselves, it can make it harder for all of us to come together and work towards making society better.

Instead of dwelling on criticism, it’s more helpful to focus on understanding, working together, and appreciating everyone around us. Embracing these qualities helps us build stronger connections and shared goals, rather than creating divides through disagreements. Creating meaningful relationships and communities comes down to accepting and respecting our differences, rather than insisting everyone sees things the same way.

People usually get that wanting to better themselves means aiming for goals that go beyond where they are right now. It’s just a natural part of being human. To make progress, you need to set clear goals and take steps to reach them.

If someone’s content to stay the same day after day, they might notice that their progress starts to slow down. The way their life unfolds really depends on the choices they make today. Without putting in effort to grow and develop as a person, things can easily become stagnant. And their personal growth can have a ripple effect on those around them. Ultimately, the fate of the community as a whole depends on each individual’s decision to grow or not.

How would you like to improve yourself?

Are you interested in boosting your health, losing some weight, or maybe developing more patience and humility? Or perhaps you’re looking to work through fears, past traumas, or emotional challenges you deal with every day? Would you like to find more peace, even when it comes to past experiences? Consider reaching out to people you look up to—those who have already made progress toward these goals. Their stories and experiences can make your journey a lot easier, since they’ve already paved the way.

There’s truly no good reason to stay stuck in the same place when you could be growing and improving. Every day is a new opportunity to start fresh. Staying still, or blaming others or past mistakes usually doesn’t help anyone move forward. Those kinds of attitudes can hold you back.

Instead, try to consciously take steps to move ahead. Perfection might not happen overnight, but the effort you put in really does make a difference. Every moment you dedicate to improvement gets you a little closer to where you want to be. And improves those around you who are being affected by your growth.

At the end of the day, it’s all about the choices you make. Personal circumstances are shaped by the decisions you choose to take.

If you’re feeling unsure about the way society is moving, remember that you can always focus on improving yourself. Our actions, words, and feelings really do affect those around us. We’re more connected than we often think, all bound together by our shared humanity. Ultimately, it’s up to each of us to help shape the future of our world.
