Ken Rusk: Redefining Success Without a Degree

Recently I learned of a gentleman by the name of Ken Rusk. He worked in the blue collar field for over 30 years, making good income and feeling content in his choices.

When he was young, it wasn’t unusual to find that many of the classmates were not interested in more book learning and college degrees. Schools offered technical training for those students, and they learned, instead, skills that emphasized manual labor jobs. Welding, auto repair, wood working, and the like.

[T]here [are] quite a number of high paying jobs that didn’t require college degrees that were going unfilled

The missing workers

But over the years, he watched the change in direction in the choices provided for the young people. increasingly, he saw the youth being “funneled” into college degree programs. When they came out the other end, they found themselves in an unfulfilled in life, in debt, and unhappy with the reality of the world beyond their college graduation.

What Ken realized was that, because of an increasing shortage of skilled laborers, there were quite a number of high paying jobs that didn’t require college degrees that were going unfilled. Shortages of construction workers, service contractors, day laborers, hospitality workers, installation specialists…the list goes on.

An opportunity for a solution…

Ken decided to offer the opportunity to learn what was truly important in life – and it didn’t require a degree, or determined career path from outside influences. It would steer the individual toward something far more fulfilling than just a job.

He felt it more important for each person to understand what was important in their life first. He began to wonder if those people, now unhappy in their current position, could be shown a way to fulfill their deepest desires and be content in their future choices.

So he talked with people, strategized, and came up with a solution to help people unlock those dreams. Then he set out to help them figure out what kind of life they wanted, divide it into manageable pieces, and set it in motion toward a goal to achieve that end.

And that’s nothing to scoff at…

My son-in-law has worked in manufacturing for over a decade, making good money to support his family. But where we came from originally, those roles were looked down on by the city dwellers who needed the skilled repairmen or new parts for their kitchen sink, complaining at the costs.

In other words, they wanted the goods and services, but didn’t want to pay for it.

Then we moved…

Moving from a city to a much more rural part of the country has been a nice change. Here, more young people have a lot of opportunities to achieve high success in fields that have been long ago discarded by our society. Farmers, ranchers, egg production farming, agriculture, mining.

Friends who run successful auto repair or towing services. New acquaintances who achieved a high financial success starting and running their own drilling water wells, drilling companies. And those working in the oil fields. Road crews, electricians, appliance repair men and women, steel workers, welders, manufacturing workers, farmers, ranchers, egg production farming, agriculture, mining…all the laborers filling necessary roles for our economy to function seamlessly.

Without them, we would be without electricity, air conditioning and heating, or even be able to purchase new appliances, or even clothing!

…the one thing consistently missing from our society is the lack of direction in the young.

Finding more…

But the one thing consistently missing from our society is the lack of direction in the young. No one knows what they want to be when they grow up any more. They are driven by the idea that whatever they pick, it must pay a lot of money. Opting for comfort of air conditioned offices instead of intense labor just adds to the appeal of choosing income over satisfaction.

But there is so much more to life than just finding a job. It is about building character, self-esteem, dignity. What we do should reflect who we are.

And that is where Ken Rusk comes in…

Ken took the opportunity to challenge the young – and old – to take another look at their lives. Where do they want to be in the coming years? Is where they are at satisfying, breeding contentment…or resentment?

He developed a course to help people prioritize what is important to them. Then gain the vision for their future.

Ken’s results…

Taking a look at his website, you can find amazing stories and testimonies of those who gained a new perspective on their personal lives. Finding out how to achieve life goals instead of career goals is the key.

The courses he offers are not expensive. But they are life-changing.

Then listen to his interview…

Listen to his fascinating interview and see for yourself what insight and direction Ken has to share. Learning how he started out, how he got to where it is today, as well as about trade labor careers, the increasing demands for the skilled laborers, and why it should be something to consider as an option.

Perhaps you, too, will find the inspiration to follow his lessons, as my grandchildren are about to undergo. They, like you, will be able to better understand that when they choose a path in their lives, they will do so with those critical elements of life’s essentials in mind.

His lessons cross boundaries of age and economic factors. In this interview, we will learn where he started, how he came to be where he is today, and how each one of us can achieve our own dreams by learning what he has to offer.
