There are so many important things in life to choose from. Our beliefs, our foods, the lifestyle we choose to follow, the mentors we decide to emulate, our professional choices.

But what truly matters?

The parts of us that really matter is what makes us human. Those intangible pieces of ourselves that affect everything we do, everything we choose that will touch not only our own lives, but the lives of every person around us.

Those pieces that reflect outwardly are those perceptions we hold deeply and dearly within our hearts.

They are:

  • our Faith – that which we believe to be True above all
  • our Hope in something that is beyond us, higher than us, more concrete than what we see here and Which oversees and demonstrate all the moral and ethical principals which we follow
  • our Love, or Charity – that part of us which we share to others; our compassion, mercy, toward all, including our enemies – the most difficult of all
  • our family – those with whom we share our closest ties and are our primary community

The list could be extended far beyond those basic principals, but it is a beginning of the core values upon which to build our house of relationships and character.

Lived well, these things, held with well taught right reason and good intentions, can change the world.

But held with a perverse and selfish intent, can destroy it.
