My perfect space.
It isn’t just for reading and writing. It’s for meditation , destressing, spiritual and physical renewal. A place of quiet solitude, even if others share the space.
A place of peace.
What is this space?
It is a gift from a family member. A room outdoors that encompasses an office space and a place to relax. An inspiration for artistic creativity and deep thought and contemplation.
This space is a sacred place. A place of continuum with the nature that surrounds us.
Painted, insulated, and facing the bright western sun.

Within…
The little building shares my office space with a place of relaxation. A small coffee bar sits beside a stereo system. CDs and vinyl alike can share the audio space and fill the room with the calming sounds of instrumentals and voice.

There is an altar upon which my sacred images stand, and a pres dieus before it. The space reminds me to place all my day, my work, and my efforts before the feet of the Creator. It helps to keep the priority of endeavors apart from myself and toward something much greater, much higher than myself.
Outside…
The space around the building is surrounded by woods and a well-kept lawn. Fruit trees adorn the most sunny spots to help offset the heat of summer. And the western sun lights up the building within to offer a glimmer of natural essence within.
Flowers and a garden sit just beyond. Buzzing bees busy with their pollen-gathering activities begin in early Spring and dance their way through to the Fall. Slithering snakes and quick skinks rustle the plants as they seek to escape notice from the humans who unknowingly disturb them.

Well water is just outside. Fresh, cool, clear from the depths of the earth. The perfect antidote for hot days. It also provides the ability to clean paint and glue brushes, and fill the coffee maker for tea in the afternoons.
Daily rituals…
Each day is a new dawning. No two days are ever the same. Yet each runs in a rhythm fitting for the disciplined mind.
Early before the sun comes up, exercises, breakfast, prayers, and coffee are the rule of the day. Sitting on the deck with a steaming cuppa watching nature awakened by the rising sun is an experience not quickly forgotten.
And sharing those times with friends, pets, and family extend such pleasures.
Being able to set my own pace within a flexible structure allows for the opportunities of exploration to begin.
The work day begins soon after. Enclosing self inside the building shuts out the noise of the world. In my space, there is peace provided to focus on the tasks at hand.
And the unreasonable stresses and demands of the outside world go away.
Being able to set my own pace within a flexible structure allows for the opportunities of exploration to begin. No amount of videos or books could lure me away from reaching my highest goals.
And the calmness helps to achieve the creativity that has been bound within for all too long in the corporate world.
At the end of the day…
When all has been accomplished, and the day is winding down, the lights and computer are shut down. A book is picked up in front of the resting area, and snuggling with a soft blanket, the mind can begin to unwind before heading into the house.

Relaxed, I am ready to face the evening with noisy kids and chaotic family life. Night prayers are said, dinner completed, kitchen cleaned, and lights being to go out. Children off to bed, followed by the rest of us a bit later.
Time goes by, but it is filled with memories and successes.
It is time for cherishing the moments…
Without this building and time to set aside for things I want to do, life would be so much harder. The space created by the short distance allows for family life to smoothly go on uninterrupted.
Without this building and time to set aside for things I want to do, life would be so much harder.
Yet it is close enough to share interests and conversations. The children enter into the inner sanctum and enjoy the stillness within. They share their stories and ideas. We play games and have tea parties, sharing the special times apart from the world.
It is a building that holds many memories.
And the best gift that I could ever receive.
